NAIROBI- Former Wajir East MP Abass Sheikh Mohamed alias “Abass KK” has declared his interest to vie for Wajir senate seat.
Speaking exclusively to Frontier Online, after meeting Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday afternoon, Abass said he will contest for the county senatorial seat on a UDA ticket.
“I will contest for Wajir Senate seat in the forthcoming August general elections and will vie on a UDA ticket.” said Abass.
Abass also dismissed reports that he is running for Wajir East constituency seats saying he abides by the family decision to endorse businessman and lawyer Adan Daud Mohamed to contest for the parliamentary seat on behalf of the Masare clan.
Mohamed contested for Wajir East seat in the last 2017 general elections but unfortunately lost the current sitting MP Rashid Kassim Amiin who for the second time wants to defend his seat despite facing huge setback from his Fai family who are to anoint him to run for the seat.
Abass is a close confidant of Deputy President William Ruto and has sticked to the DP Ruto’s political camp despite some of the political heavyweight from North Eastern Kenya joining parties in Azimio La Umoja Movement and others forming new political outfits which they will use in contesting for various seats in the August Polls.
He joins a list of growing hopefuls who want to unseat the incumbent Dr Abdullahi Ali Kabreta who has since announced his bid to run for Wajir gubernatorial seat in the 2022 elections.
