NAIROBI– Mandera county Assembly Speaker Mohamed Adan Khalif’s bid to succeed governor Ali Ibrahim Roba has received a major boost after degodia elders and leaders led by senior counsel and former Mandera Central East MP Abdikadir Mohamed alias Abdikadir Lawyer and Principal secretary Ministry of Environment & Forestry Mr. Alinoor Mohamed declared the endorsement of the candidature of Mohamed Khalif as the sole flag bearer of the Degodia community in the August slated polls.
Addressing journalists in Nairobi, the former Constitution Implementation Oversight Committee in parliament who doubled up as the Spokesperson for the 47 member technical committee Abdikadir Mohamed alias Abdikadir Lawyer said that Khalif has what it takes to be the governor of Mandera and will use his expertise to take the county in Northern Kenya to a greater height whilst reiterating that Mohamud is a person of long standing and seasoned leader who has the interest of the community at heart.

The senior legal practitioner added that they had consultative meetings over the last two months with respect to coming up with a favourable and competent person for the position of the governorship in Mandera and as a technical team they also had deliberations with the current contenders of the gubernatorial candidate and have finally settled for the current speaker of the Mandera county Assembly Mohamed Adan Khalif.
“We have had consultative meetings over the last two months with respect to the political decisions and have had deliberations with all the five candidates that have brought forth their candidature.It is therefore my humble pleasure to announce the decision of the degodia community of Mandera that thy will support for governor of Mandera in the elections of 2022 Mr. Mohamed Adan Khalif.” said Abdulkadir.
He further stated that they did agree with the governorship nominee to come up with the right and appropriate person for deputy governor and that the community will be engaged in consultations in the next few days so that the decision can also be made public.
The chairman of the committee who is also the Principal Secretary State Department of Cooperatives Mr. Alinoor Ismail said that Mohamed Khalif has the support of both the community and as well as the entire communities living in Mandera county.
He further outlined that Khalif understands the suffering of the common mwananchi and has the feel of the situation of the on the ground.
Mandera governor Ali Ibrahim Roba while speaking at Bomas of Kenya last month unveiled the candidature of the county Assembly boss Mohamed Khalif saying he is his preferred successor and will run for the coveted seat under the United Democratic Movement UDM ticket which he is the party leader.

The race to take over the mantle from Mr Roba – who is serving the final stretch of his second term has attracted the Speaker Mohamed Khalif, former East African Community Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohamed, Ex-Education Chief Administrative Secretary Hassan Noor Hassan, businessman Adan Haji Issack, Ali Kiti, a banker and the current senator Mohamed Maalim Mumad.
