GARISSA- At least 33,000 heads of livestocks was vaccinated against diseases in the ongoing livestock vaccination drive launched recently by Garissa Governor HE Nathif Jama.
Tbe CEC for Agriculture, Livestock and Pastoral Economy Hon Hassan Abdirizak who on Friday visited the vaccination exercise at Darisalam in Abaqqaile Ward said the exercise kicked of successfully and vet team dispatched to Balambala, Lagdera and Dadaab atleast vaccinated 33000 heads of livestock within three days.
The CEC who was accompanied by Abakaile MCA Hon Hajir Dahiye and Dertu Ward MCA Hon Aden Hassan said the vaccination exercise targets 150,000 Goats, Sheep, Cattle and Camels.
The CEC assured the livestock farmers whose herds were affected by the outbreak of the Sheep and Goat Pox, that the ongoing vaccination exercise under the Emergency Locust Response Program will contain the spread of the disease.
He said the three teams dispatched to the sub counties will vaccinate, deworm and carry out ecto parasite control and treatment.
He affirmed that the Contagious Caprine Pleuro Pneumonia, Sheep and Goat Pox and Blackquarter disease were targeted in the program carried out jointly by Garissa County and World Bank Organization.
He further mentioned distribution of livestock feed , Water trucking and distribution of Water plastic tanks was also rolled out as part the emergency drought response activities.
The MCA for Abaqaile Hon Hajir Dahiye and Dertu Ward MCA Hon Aden Hassan appreciated the success of the ongoing livestock vaccination exercise which they said was timely and priority due the prolonged drought.
Bashir Abdullahi of Agriculture, Livestock and Pastoral economy, Siyat onle, Location coordination office, and other senior officials were present.
