The Director of Public Prosecutions, Renson Ingonga, CBS, OGW has commended the Judiciary for its remarkable progress in strengthening service delivery and advancing people-centred justice following the launch of the 2024/2025 Judiciary Performance Management and Measurement Understandings Evaluation Report.
Speaking during the launch, the DPP described the completion of the 10th Cycle of Performance Management Implementation in the Judiciary as a major milestone that demonstrates the institution’s commitment to accountability, continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making.
The DPP lauded the Judiciary’s achievements in reducing case backlogs, improving case clearance rates, enhancing productivity and embracing technology-driven solutions that have made justice more accessible and efficient.
He also welcomed the expansion of judicial infrastructure, including the establishment of new courts and sub-registries, which has significantly improved access to justice across the country.
The DPP particularly praised the Judiciary’s investment in virtual courts, e-Filing, digital transcription and the Case Tracking System, noting that the integration of some of these systems with the ODPP’s Uadilifu Case Management System has enhanced collaboration and information sharing within the criminal justice sector.
Reaffirming the ODPP’s commitment to justice sector reforms, the DPP said the Office will continue working closely with the Judiciary and other stakeholders to reduce case backlogs through alternatives to prosecution such as plea bargaining and diversion, while promoting the use of technology to ensure timely and fair resolution of criminal matters.
He called upon all justice sector actors to remain committed to building a justice system that is accessible, responsive, accountable and centred on the needs of the people.
“True justice is not measured only by the decisions rendered, but by the confidence, dignity and relief it brings to the people we serve,” the DPP stated.
