JOWHAR– African Union Transition Mission in Somalia drawn from the Burundi National Defence Forces ( BNDF) on Friday have successfully completed a three-day firefighting and safety Trainer of Trainers course at Jowhar airfield in Hirshabelle State.

The main objective of the training was to equip and enhance their skills and knowledge in disaster preparedness.

Capt. Ndikumana Jonathan, lead trainer from ATMIS Burundi contingent, encouraged the officers to apply the knowledge in mitigation of natural disasters.

He emphasised the safety of troops and civilians within their Area of Responsibility (AoR) remains paramount.

ATMIS has recently stepped up training programs for its troops in efforts aimed at uplifting the capabilities of the officers in combatting with Al-Shabab militant group and dealing with natural disasters like fire and drought which occasionally occur in the Horn of Africa Nation.
