CAIRO– Egypt has reaffirmed its respect for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a joint Press Conference on Sunday, Egypt President Abdelfattah El-sisi pledged the unwavering commitment by Egypt to defending the territorial integrity of Somalia.
He said that Somalia is an Arab country and has the rights as enshrined in the Arab League Charter in the common defense against any threat to it.
El Sisi voiced his strong rejection to the recent agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland which granted the latter access to the Red sea.
Earlier on, the two leaders engaged discussions on various issues including strengthening bilateral and diplomatic relations between the two countries in a meeting that took place at the Egyptian Presidential Palace in the capital Cairo.

The two leaders also discussed the current security and political situation in the region and the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab.
Egypt recently reaffirmed its respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Somalia after the emergence of a Ethiopia – Somaliland maritime pact.
