MARSABIT– Youth Affairs and sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba on Monday visited Marsabit County to inspect Marsabit Stadium.

The CS who was accompanied by officials from his ministry and sports Kenya among them Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund CEO Mr. Nuh Ibrahim, Sports Kenya Chair Hon. Peter Gitau, Director General Pius Metto and other official and was received by Governor Mohamud Ali and other senior county officials.

Speaking during his visit to the stadium, The CS said his ministry was on a mission to improve sporting infrastructure in Kenya, a cause which he said will be guided by the Sports Infrastructure Masterplan that provides a scientifically established guide on the kind of facilities to be developed.

“We are putting an end to haphazard development of sporting facilities in the country. We want to make sure that every facility that we develop returns value for the tax payers’ money invested. It is in this regard that the Sports Infrastructure Masterlan provides a detailed guide on what kind of stadium to build, where to build it, & the value Kenyans will derive from such investments. We have mapped out various upgrades & development of sporting infrastructure, classified into international standard stadia, Regional Stadia & Community grounds.” Said CS Ababu.

The CS assured the County Governor that his ministry would be partnering with the county to ensure that Marsabit Stadium was upgraded, and that works would commence immediately.

On his part, Governor Mohamud lauded CS Ababu on his hands-on approach to matters sports, attributing it to the turnaround witnessed in the sporting industry.

He assured the CS that his government would partner with the ministry to deliver a proper stadium for the people of Marsabit.

Further, the two leaders agreed that work would commence immediately so as to complete the first phase of the development in the next 4-5 weeks.

The renovations and upgrades will be done in two phases, with the first being the completion of terraces, improvement of the playing turf, completion of a car park, as well as the rehabilitation of the VIP pavilion.

The second phase of the renovation will include the laying of canopy all round the stadium and installation of seats.
