NAIROBI- The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee has today met State Departments under the Ministry of Defence, that of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to review their Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the 2023/2024 Financial Year.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale told the Committee Chaired by Hon. Nelson Koech, that requisite budgetary allocation to the Ministry was critical to keep the country secure.

Hon. Koech pledged to put up a case for more budgetary allocation to the Ministry to upscale pending Military recruitments and other critical defence related projects.
“We have heard you and I will implore on this Committee to take a keen focus on the Budget issue, especially on the need for recruitment when we retreat to consider your submissions,” said Hon. Koech
The Committee also met the Ministry of East African Community, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands and Regional Development led by Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano who had accompanied Principal Secretary in the State Department of East African Community Affairs Mr. Abdi Dubat.
Mr. Dubat sought the Committee’s budgetary backing to enhance advancement of the Country’s interests in the region.
“As we continue to advance our strategic national interests in the EAC integration process, I requested the committee for their support in the enhancement of our FY 2023/24 budget allocation,” said Mr. Dubat.

Outgoing NIS Director General Major General Phillip Kameru, also presented the Agency’s Budget estimates.
Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Dr. Alfred Mutua, accompanied PS Dr. Korir Sing’oei (Foreign Affairs) also appeared before the Committee to defend his Ministry’s Revenue and Budget Statement.
