JIGJIGA- Ethiopian based Degodia traditional leader, Wabar Abdille Wabar Abdi has been presented with the award of peace for his efforts to advancing peace and unity in the region.
In a colourful and well choreographed event held in Jigjiga on Saturday, the President of Somali Ethiopia region Mustafe Mohamud Omar led top Degodia community leaders and other dignitaries in presenting the award to the supreme leader which was conferred to him by former Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2019.
Several leaders, prominent professionals, business moguls and diplomats drawn from the larger Degodia community attended the event.
Wajir governor Ahmed Abdullahi and Eldas MP Adan Keynan led a host of leaders from Northern Kenya in gracing the occasion.
Governor Abdullahi expressed his delight partaking in the historic event of handing the award of the Elder of Burning Spear ( EBS).
Abdullahi underscored the role played by Wabar Abdulle in fostering peace and cohesion in the Horn of Africa.
“The EBS Award, one of the highest State Honours, was conferred to him in 2019 by H.E Uhuru Kenyatta in recognition of his extraordinary Leadership role and contribution to peace, unity, and regional prosperity.” He said.

Eldas MP Adan Keynan on his part lauded and acknowledge the outstanding leadership of Wabar Abdille in inspiring and having a great impact in the lives of people.
Keynan said Wabar Abdille played a vital role in bringing peace and stability in Northern Kenya and across the Horn of Africa.

Former Kenya’s president Uhuru Kenyatta feted Wabar Abdille in December 2019 for his peace- making efforts during his maiden first to Kenya at an event held at State House, Nairobi.
The Elder of Burning Spear ( EBS) is one of the highest lucrative honour awarded to individuals who have made great strides in different disciplines and local and international level.
Wabar Abdille is the 12th Wabar in the leadership lineage.
The Wabar herds at least 600 camels, 300 cattle and 1,000 goats encompassing a vehicle and a house.
