The former national security chief of Somalia Fahad Yaasin who was recently appointed as the National security adviser by president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has today morning arrived in Mogadishu after days of being in Turkey
Senior security officials have confirmed to the media the arrival of Mr. Fahad Yaasin by a private plane that had landed at Aden Adde International airport in Mogadishu-Somalia
On Friday 17th this month Djiboutian authorities allegedly detained former NISA boss who departed from Turkey and was on transit in Djibouti on his way to Mogadishu.
Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo had on Friday accused neighboring Djibouti of illegally detaining his national security adviser, but the Djibouti’s foreign minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf , without naming any individual, denied reports that it was interfering in Somalia.
“We will continue to stand by our brothers and sisters in Somalia but never interfere in their internal affairs,” Mahmoud Ali Youssouf wrote on Twitter.
“His (Yasin’s) presence is quite polarizing, so if he is back in Mogadishu, that is a boon for Mohamed and it is a concern for Roble’s side,” Mahmood Omar, Somalia analyst at the International Crisis Group, a Brussels-based think-tank, told Reuters.
“Djibouti has not been happy with the Mohamed government for quite some time so it is not a surprise to see them do something, whether intentionally or unintentionally, that is a detriment to Mohamed,” he said.
President Farmajo had called for a meeting of the National Security Committee which was scheduled to take place on the 18th of this month, and planned to be attended by National Security Adviser Fahad Yasin Haji Dahir, but the meeting has now been postponed.
Yasin was suspended from his post as director of the National Intelligence Service Agency (NISA) by Prime Minister Mohammed Hussein Roble last week following the disappearance of a National Intelligence Agent Ikran Tahliil which has since caused a row between President Farmajo and Prime Minister Roble.
