Dhusamareb- Galmudug State president Ahmed Kariye Qoor Qoor held a crisis meeting with his Cabinet to discuss a raft of issues key among it being the resignation of the security minister amid heightened tention following the incursion of Ahlu Sunna fighters in key towns.
The meeting that lasted for several hours keenly tailored on the current security situation that has befallen on the regional State and preparations for the forthcoming parliamentary house elections was also brought to the fore.
Sources close to the meeting intimated that, the cabinet also deliberated on the resignation of the Security minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi and an ambush by Galmudug forces and the seizure of two significant towns by Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a forces.
Galmudug Information Minister Ahmed Shire Falagle told VOA Somali that the cabinet discussed safeguarding and protecting Galmudug’s stability and existence.
“We will bolster our fight against Al-Shabaab and keep a close eye on the many who want to prevent peace in Galmudug,” said Minister Ahmed Shire Falagle.
Falagle rubbished claims that strike by members of Galmudug’s security forces was based on the resignation of the Security Minister. He said that the soldier’s grievances were about salaries and provisions.
Ahlu Sunna fighters deposed the federal government forces from Mataban and Guriceel towns last week. The Sufist militia in a statement to the media said took control of the towns since government forces flppped to end the incessant insurgency by Al-Shabaab mlitants.
The cabinet meeting pledged to resolve the security upheaval in Galmudug state and urged both the government forces and the militia to shun from any actions that would escalate the already disturbed peace.
