The CEC for Health and Sanitation Hon Ahmednadhir Omar today hosted World Health Delegation led by the Country Representative Dr Abdourahmane Diallo
The team came to support and strengthen the reponse on the recent Cholera outbreak that claimed 12 lives in Garissa County.
And also to strengthen the health system and enhance partnership to improve services.
Briefing the team on the intervention progress Hon Ahmednadhir Omar said the County technical team and WHO support team did a commendable progress to contain the spread of outbreak and to avert more fatality.
He said said the spirit of team work and commitment from all involved in the response of the disease outbreak deserves to be appreciated.
He assured the team the commitment of the administration of H E Nathif Jama to strengthen the partnership and collaboration with the World Health Organization to achieve its global and county health agenda..
He said despite the challenges of climate change and the nomadic lifestyle of the local community, the county celeberates covering 98% of its target in the immunization exercise of oral cholera vaccination.
Speaking when the team paid a courtesy call to the Deputy County Commissioner Solomon Komen, the CEC also appreciated the support the County Commissiner’s office, chiefs and security personnels during the vaccination exercise.
He furher informed the team that the county government was fully committed to achieve both the Governor’s manifesto and President Ruto’s ambitions to transform the health sector.
“As we work towards UHC and implementation of President Ruto’s KKA’S Health Manifesto, there’s need to have strengthened collaboration and partnership with WHO and other development partners” said the CEC
Dr Abdourahmane Diallo assured the CEC that WHO will strengthen its partnership with County health department and further appreciated the county technical team efforts and response towards the cholera outbreak.
He said WHO already begun establishing regional office in Garissa to strengthen its operations and partnership with Garissa county having enjoyed a cordial working partnership.
The WHO delegation also visited the Garissa Public Health Emergency Operation Center
The CEC was accompanied by the County Health Director Aden Hussein, the Head of the health preventive and promotion services Ali Amin, County Quality Control officer Bashir Hassan and the County Health Promotion officer Ibrahim Gedi.
