Garissa county governor Ali Bunow Korane has called for a peaceful co-existence among residents of Garissa and Isiolo border in a bid to foster brotherhood among the two communities.
Speaking in a peace meeting in Embu Town yesterday to bring together warring communities from the two counties who have been feuding over grazing land, the governor urged residents in the two counties to cultivate peace.
“I call on residents from both sides to cultivate peace and avoid incidents that contribute to the destruction of property and loss of lives,” said Korane.
The meeting which was held at Country View Hotel and attended by over 80 people who included elders, leaders, and officials from Frontier Counties Development Council ( FCDC) discussed ways in which the two communities can share the scare resources during this current drought ravaging many parts of the country without engaging in conflict.
The proposed Madogashe water project spearheaded by both Garissa and Isiolo governors and Kenya Red Cross was also deliberated on which is expected to benefit both communities living in the protracted border area.
Five people were killed and 15 houses torched in a retaliatory attack at Kampi ya Samaki area on April 12th after a militia attack that also left a trail of destruction behind.
36 people have so far been killed since 2016 in the disputed border that has been pitting the communities from the two counties against each other.
