SAKU, MARSABIT- In a display of solidarity, Governor Mohamud Ali has officially launched a relief food distribution initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable households across Marsabit County during.
Standing alongside County Commissioner Mr. James Kamau, County Secretary and County Executive Committee Members, Governor Ali emphasized the importance of equity and equality in his administration’s approach. “We are facing trying times, but it is our duty to care for every member of our community,” he stated. “This distribution is not just about food; it’s about dignity and support for our people.”
This year’s relief effort comes in the wake of a budget readjustment following the rejection of a finance bill, which has resulted in a decrease of over 300 million shillings. Governor Ali appealed to the public for understanding, highlighting that, despite the financial constraints, his government remains dedicated to addressing the needs of its most vulnerable citizens.
In a significant move, the county government has also allocated special provisions for 5,000 vulnerable Muslim households, ensuring their needs during Ramadan are met. This distribution will be overseen by local sheikhs, who will facilitate the process across various mosques in the county. Additionally, 20,000 vulnerable households—1,000 from each of the 20 wards—will receive support, with the distribution managed by sub-county administrators, ward administrators, and village elders.

Governor Ali’s message was clear: those entrusted with the distribution must ensure that the food reaches its intended recipients. He warned that any attempts to divert resources would not be tolerated and would result in strict consequences. “We must uphold the integrity of this initiative,” he asserted, reinforcing the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Further emphasizing inclusivity, the governor confirmed that special attention would be given to people living with disabilities, those affected by HIV/AIDS, and even individuals in correctional facilities. “We are here to support every member of our community, regardless of their circumstances,” he added.
Mrs. Amina Challa, the CECM for Public Service and Administration also addressed the pressing issue of food security, noting that the budget cuts to the drought mitigation program have impacted distribution efforts. She called for an increase in funding for this vital program in future budgets, stressing the urgency of the situation. “We must ensure that our people have access to food and resources,” she urged.
In a show of appreciation, Hajji Oshe, speaking on behalf of the sheikhs, thanked Governor Ali for his continuous efforts to uplift vulnerable households in Marsabit County. “Your commitment to our community shines brightly, especially during these challenging times,” he remarked.
