GARISSA – Ijara Member of Parliament Abdi Ali Abdi has pledged to address the teachers shortage plaguing his constituency which have adversely affected the performance of students.

Speaking on Friday at Garissa Teachers Training College where he paid a visit to students from his constituency undertaking education program at the institution, the MP decried about the biting shortage of teachers facing his constituency and the entire region, calling for concerted efforts to address it once and for all.

During the meeting with the students, the MP revealed that the constituency’s Constituency Development Fund (CDF) will allocate up to Sh7.2 million annually to sponsor students willing to partake education at various institutions across the country.

Mr. Abdi said that he will sponsor 100 students annually to bridge the widening gape between students and teachers at his constituency.

He implored and encouraged the students to work hard to ensure his initiatives does not go down the drain.

The lawmaker emphasized the significance of adopting sustainable mechanisms and solutions to address the perennial teachers shortage and to ensure that the region has the capacity to cure the shortage of tutors across the Northern region.

Meanwhile, as parts of his efforts to surmount the myriad challenges facing the education sector and uplifting the status of education in his constituency, the MP today had a fruitful engagement with sub county education directors of all the three sub counties, TSC field officers working in Ijara, all the 9 principals of the secondary schools in Ijara among other stakeholders.

The meeting discussed various key issues including merits of the free secondary education year in review, areas of strengths and possible improvements to be effected for better results.

The legislator used the opportunity to call on the education actors present at the meeting to work towards transforming the education in Ijara and ensure quality education for all the learners in his constituency.
