Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in efforts aimed at enhancing the sustainable and transformational development in the county.
Governor Korane said that the planned areas of collaboration with the USAID include alignment of activities and budget, sharing information, joint work planning, designing new programs, monitoring and evaluation.
The governor noted that combatting, countering and protecting beneficiaries will also take centre in the collaboration with aid agency.
Korane appreciated USAID’s commitment towards inclusive and sustainable economic and social development for the residents of Garissa.
He assured the donor organization if the necessary from his administration to supporting and strengthening devolution in the county.
” I urge you ( USAID) to consider addressing the impacts of refugees hosted for the last 30 years resulting in environmental degradation that affected the economic lifeline of local community.” said Korane.

On their part, the USAID mission Director Mark Meassick said that they are proudto sign non- binding MOU with the Garissa county government and said that it signifies a joint partnership to work together with the county government and facilitie Kenyan- led development in the county.
The governor was accompanied by the CEC for finance and economic planning Hon Issa Oyow , Director for Health Abdullahi Daud and Director for Donor coordination Mohamed Sahal.
