WAJIR- In a proactive effort to enhance the role of media during terrorism-related incidents, the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC) held a specialized training session for the Wajir journalists and digital media professionals.
The workshop focused on responsible reporting, misinformation control, and ethical coverage of sensitive events.
Also it’s an important step towards strengthening responsible journalism in times of crisis thus this will help in focusing on ethical and effective reporting during terrorism-related incidents.
The training held at Wajir Guest House attracted over twenty media personnel from across the county. Topics included media combating Extremist, Radicalization,Terrorism ,Models , Communication and Media, Violent Extremist Communication Internet Violent Extremist Communication and many more related on fighting against terrorism and the importance of source verification, and the impact of media narratives on national security and public sentiment.
“Our goal is to build a bridge between media and counter-terrorism efforts, ensuring both freedom of the press and public safety,” said a senior NCTC official during the opening remarks.
The National Counter Terrorism Centre held an immersive training on Strategic Communications in Preventing & Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) for media professionals in Wajir County drawing participants from mainstream, community, and digital platforms.

Sessions were led experts on counter-terrorism specialists and also experts on various field that correspond to aimed topics.
Participants also engaged in scenario-based exercises simulating high-pressure reporting during security incidents.
“It was an eye-opener,” said Abdifatah, a reporter from Bayan Tv . “This training reminded us how powerful our platforms are and how critical responsible journalism is in such moments.”
The training is part of a broader national initiative to counter violent extremism and improve coordination between the media and law enforcement agencies. NCTC plans to replicate these sessions across the nationwide.
