NAIROBI – Today, August 25, 2022, the newly elected governors in the August 9 elections have been sworn in across the country in order to start their 5-year tenures.
Frontier Online takes a look at how the inauguration took place in the counties of Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo and Marsabit.
GARISSA COUNTY.
Garissa Governor- elect Nadhif Aden Jamaa along his deputy Abdi Dagaane were today sworn as the third Governor at the Garissa primary playground
Thousands of Garissa residents thronged to Garissa primary playground to witness the inauguration ceremony presided by High court judges Hon. Lady Justice Rachael Ngetich assisted by Senior Principal Magistrate Hezron Nyaberi.

WAJIR COUNTY
Wajir County pioneer governor Ahmed Abdullahi Jiir made a come back, and he was today alongside his deputy Ahmed Muhumed sworn in as governor for Wajir County.
“I’m truly humbled beyond words, by the firm faith and belief from all the corners of our County and as I assume office, I assure you that I accept this duty with utmost humility” said Ahmed Abdullahi.
Outgoing Wajir governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud attended the inauguration and handed over instruments of power to the new governor.

MANDERA COUNTY
In Mandera County, outgoing Mandera County Assembly speaker Mohamed Adan Khalif alongside his deputy Dr Ali Mohamud were sworn in at Mandera Moi Stadium.
“Thank you, Mandera residents, for allowing me to serve you as your Governor. In Sha Allah, I will not disappoint you. I request your prayers and good counsel. I am aware you have high expectations from my govt, and with your support, we can achieve our shared goals” said Khalif

ISIOLO COUNTY
Abdi Guyo together with his deputy Dr James Lowasa took oath of office today at Isiolo Boys High school.
Isiolo County former governor Dr.Mohamed Abdi Kuti was absent due to health reasons. He was however well represented by County Secretary Dr. Ahmed Galgalo who was chair of the Assumption of Power Committee.
Guyo has set the record as first member of county assembly to ascend to the governor’s position after serving as an MCA for Matopeni ward in NAIROBI and later elected majority leader in the city county assembly.

MARSABIT COUNTY
In MARSABIT county Mohamud Ali made a come back, and he was today alongside his deputy Solomon Gubo sworn in as governor of Marsabit County.
“I promise you today, as I did 5 years ago on the 21st of August 2017, that I will continue to serve you as your Servant-Leader – in absolute humility and devotion to your collective needs and common aspirations as the People and community of Marsabit” said governor Mohamud.

The law states that the swearing-in of the governor-elect shall occur in a public ceremony before a High Court judge, and indeed there was pomp and colour in various venues where the events took place, save for Kakamega and Mombasa which are still waiting for their elections.
