MOGADISHU– The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr.Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Wednesday received the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General, Mrs. Catriona Laing at Villa Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh and Ambassador Catriona Laing discussed the acceleration of the important activities of the United Nations Office to support the government of Somalia.
The President shared the government’s efforts in the fight against terrorism, economic development, and noted the importance of addressing the humanitarian challenges in areas where terrorists have been removed.

On her part, Ambassador Catriona Laing thanked the government and the people of Somalia for the warm welcome she received, praising the achievements of the war to liberate the Somali people and the country from terrorists, and pointed out that her new mission will focus on strengthening cooperation, increasing support,security, politics and humanitarian aid.
Mrs Catriona also held a separate meeting with Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre at his office.
The two officials discussed UN assistance for Somalia’s transition to sustainable socio-economic, security and political development.

The meeting also provided a platform for the exploration of avenues to strengthen this progress through Government outlined priorities.
PM Barre thanks the UN for its unwavering support to Somalia government and called for continued enhanced cooperation between the two.
