Mogadishu– President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has on Thursday issued a presidential decree suspending the agreement on any land dealings, transfer or sale of public land in Somalia until parliament enacts legislation concerning land dealings in the country.
President Farmajo said that his government has received myriad complaints and outcry regarding the issue and has halted the transactions in this transition period.
The president said that the government has commenced probe into a cartel of individuals both in the government and outside who are issuing illegal documents to government properties including educational institutions and other areas in the country.
Farmajo further added that the government will take stern measures against found selling land in the country and that they will be held accountable for their actions and stated that the current electoral situation of the country has compelled him to suspend issuance of licenses and land transactions.
Sources close to Somalia government understand that President Farmajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble are in concurrent on the emotive land issue in the Horn of Africa State and hold similar standings on the same.
Farmajo issued a similar decree in early August where he banned State government officials from entering or signing agreement with foreign countries until the disputed elections in Somalia are convened and successfully conducted and completed.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble have on October 21st reached a truce to end their political squabbles after months of political stand-off that scuttled Nd crippled elections and thrown the country into a political quagmire.
In mediation talks spearheaded by South West regional State leader Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, the President and his Prime Minister came into a consensus on key issues that have sparked off their feud including the case of the allegedly slain female intelligence officer IKran Tahlil Farah.
