MOGADISHU– President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has on Thursday received Brian Nelson, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at US Treasury.

They discussed a raft of important items key being Somalia-U.S. cooperation in countering the financing of terrorism, debt relief under the HIPIC program.

The ongoing countrywide offensive against Al-qaeda affiliate group – Al-Shabab was also covered in the meeting.

In a press Conference after a meeting with President Mohamud in Mogadishu, Brian Nelson said that they discussed progress on building capacity to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.

The US Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson had arrived in Mogadishu earlier for official working visit.

During his stay in Mogadishu, he is also expected to met with senior government officials to strengthen cooperation and financial connections between the two countries.

Somalia government has in recent months stepped up efforts aimed at dealing with money laundering and financial terrorism.
