Luck has befell Mulki Abdullahi a bright needy student from Wajir county who scored a mean grade of B plain in last year’s KCSE examination.
Mulki did her KCSE at Senior Chief Ogle Girls Secondary School in Habswein Sub-County.
Abdullahi could not secure a chance in University to pursue her dream career of becoming a teacher, but fournately after her plight was widely shared on social media, Women For Women alliance came to her rescue and sponsored her education.
Mulki whose future looked bleak could not hide her joy she stepped in the compound of her favorite campus to further her studies of becoming a teacher in the near future as she will enjoy a free scholarship.
Mulki who spoke to journalists inside Garissa University exuded her confidence to becoming a teacher in a bid to alleviate the biting shortage of teachers facing Northern Kenya.
“I am very happy to take this career so that I can help the society. “said Mulki.
She further stated that the reason behind why she felt to go for the noble profession is due to the current shortage of tutors facing the Northern region as many students who finish schools annually opt for other courses.
Ummi Mohamed Bashir Founder and CEO of Women for Women alliance, a local NGO who sponsored the student said that is she very delighted to see a poor student like Mulki scaling her chain of education.
“Today we are in a very happy mood because we are welcoming our sister Mulki Abdullahi to commence hee degree in education here at Garissa University”said Ummi.
Sources told Frontier Online that Ummi who is eyeing for the seat of Wajir county Women representative outlined that she came across the predicament of the needy student via social media platforms as people were sharing her information on the social sites to fundraise for the poor girl.
“I got this information from professional WhatsApp groups where people were trying to finance for her and I saw her results were shared on WhatsApp groups and I gathered why not pay her school fees.” said Ms Bashir
