MOGADISHU– Somalia’s Prime Minister’s Security Advisor, Kamal Gutale has on Thursday held meeting with Souef Mohamed El-Amine, the Special Representative of the African Union Commission Chairperson and Head of ATMIS.
They discussed a variety of topics including the implementation of ATMIS mandate and the upcoming Joint Technical Assessment on security.
Mr. Gutale underscored the need to bolster the good working cooperation between ATMIS and the Somali government with a view to summonting the security threat from the Al-qaeda affiliate group – Al-Shabab and enhancing the stability of the Horn of Africa Nation.

Souef on his side highlighted the ATMIS and African Union commitment to addressing the stability in the country and further pledged that the ATMIS will continue supporting the Somali government Forces in combatting terrorism.

Somali government forces and ATMIS have in recent months stepped up operations against Al-shabab which has led to the capture of several strategic towns from the grip of the militants.
The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia for the last weeks been entangled in the process of handing over security responsibilities to the Somali troops as part of the UN security council resolutions which endorsed the gradual withdrawal of the African peace mission force in Somalia.
