MOGADISHU– Somalia Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development Mohamud Beenebeene on Monday held meeting with United Nations High Commission For Refugees ( UNHCR) Special Envoy to Somalia Amb. Mohamed Abdi Affey.
The high level meeting which took place in the Nation’s capital Mogadishu focused on finding lasting solutions for the displacement-affected communities (DACs) within the country and developing the areas of return for Somali refugees residing in Dadaaab camp in Kenya.
The two officials also shared the vision of removing 1 Million people from displacement in line with the National Durable Solutions Strategy.
They also exchanged ideas on ways of bolstering cooperation between the UN agency for refugees and the Somali Federal government in addressing the challenges facing refugees and IDPs in the country.
Mr. Beenebeene expressed gratitude at the meeting with the Envoy underscoring that the Somali government is keen to tackling and helping the displaced people within and without the borders of the country.

He called for concerted efforts between the Somali government and UNHCR in uplifting the living standards of the displaced people and creating opportunities to sustain them.
Amb. Affey on his side thsnked the Minister for the cordial reception and reiterated the UNHCR unflinching commitment to continue supporting Somalia in addressing the plights fscing refugees and IDPs in the East African Nation.
The UNHCR Envoy is on a working visit to Mogadishu in which he is meeting Somali government senior officials in a bid to understand and assess the situation of IDPs in the country and highlight possible modalities of repatriating the refugees in Dadaab.
