MOGADISHU– Somalia Police Commissioner Gen Sulub Ahmed Firin has on Thursday held meeting with UN Police officials in the national capital Mogadishu.
They discussed range of pertinent issues top among it being Somalia’s ongoing security transition and its impact on police operations, especially in areas recently recovered from AlShabab militant group.
The ongoing support spearheaded by the UN for Somali police development was also covered in the meeting.
During the meeting, the police boss highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between the Somali Police Force and the UN police in countering with terrorism and other acts of insecurity.
He urged the high level personnel from the UN Police to bolster its supprt to the Somali Police in a bid to surmount and overcome challenges facing them in the Horn of Africa Nation.
On their part, UN Police officials pledged to continue offering unflinching support to the Somali Police with a view to keep them abreast with the metamorphosing world of crime and combat with insurgency.
They hailed the force for dealing with scourge of criminal activities in the country particularly the city which had in recent months witnessed lull following successive and heightened operations from components of the Somali Police Force that has also led to the apprehension of vehicles loaded with explosives and other crude weapons.
The high level discussion between the Somali Police Chief and the UN Police officials is set to arguably contribute to significance progress in the Force in its quest to defeat Al-Shabab and deal with criminals wrecking havoc in the country.
