Mogadishu – Somalia police have vowed to bring to an end the unethical videos and behaviours being peddled by social media users especially Tiktokers in the capital Moqadishu.
Addressing the media on the sidelines of a meeting that brought together top police commissioners in Mogadishu, Somalia police chief General Abdi Hassan Mohamed Hajir said that the ongoing un-islamic content being created and disseminated by social media users especially Tiktokers has been on the rise calling on the users to desist from such acts.
General Hajir warned that police will arrest any one found propagating naked videos or sexually arousing behaviours within the confines of the Somali society in Tiktok and reiterated that the long arm of the law will catch them.
He further added that a special taskforce has been constituted to follow up on the contents disseminated on Tiktok to curb the scourge of anti- Islamic and unpalatable misdemeanor among the Somali youth Tiktokers which has in these days become a normal thing.
“I believe that social media platforms have grown of age and it all depends with their usage and Somali government will take action against any one caught spreading or creating nudity in the outlets.” said Gen Hajir
Tiktok has in recent months taken by heavy storm on the upcoming generation especially in the Horn of Africa State where the teenagers have been strayed into dangerous territories and upload sexually provocative contents which are a disdain to the conservative Somali culture and the noble Islamic faith.
This week a case of stage managed kidnapping swirled across Social media when a Somali Tiktok star by the name Najma who is popularly known as “Miss World” was reported to have been abducted in the capital city while attending a wedding ceremony in one of the hotels in Mogadishu.
However, a few days later it was found out that the alleged abduction claims were a hogwash and was intended to hoodwink and solicit wanton of sympathy from the susceptible populace and among tiktokers who in unison condemned the incident.
Somalia is recovering from decades of civil war that has devastated almost every sector including the entertainment industry.
With guns falling silent, many youths have been increasingly taking to social media, mostly TikTok and Facebook, to find entertainment, showcase their talents and create comedy sketches while passing their time.
TikTok is a social media platform for creating, sharing and discovering short videos.
The app is used by young people as an outlet to express themselves through singing, dancing, comedy, and lip-syncing, and allows users to create videos and share them across a community.
