HARGEISA– Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi has on Monday hosted the UN Envoy for Somalia Catriona Laing at the Presidential Palace in the capital Hargeisa.
The meeting focused on strengthening the cooperation between the United Nations and Somaliland.
The UN development projects in the breakaway region was also covered according to a statement from Somaliland Presidency.
“In this meeting, issues were discussed including the cooperation system between Somaliland and the United Nations, how to accelerate and strengthen the projects of the United Nations in Somaliland,” the read the statement.

The ongoing hostilities in the besieged town of Lascanood and possible talks between Somaliland and Somalia also featured prominently in the meeting.
“There was also a discussion about the talks between the Republic of Somaliland and Somalia, and the issue was exchanged. Also, the general situation related to the Lasanood conflict was discussed in the meeting in order to reach a peaceful solution,” the statement added.
The UN Ambassador to Somalia committed to enhance the relationship between the agency and Somaliland.
President Bihi on his side thanked the UN for its continued support to the breakaway region and pledged his administration commitment for closer cooperation.
