NAIROBI- Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi on Monday visited International Organization for Migration ( IOM) Regional Office for the East and Horn of Africa in Nairobi.
Governor Abdullahi was received by Regional Director for East and Horn of Africa Mr. Mohammed Abdiker.
The two officials held discussions on bolstering IOM programs in Wajir county.
In a statement posted on his social media pages, the county boss said they also deliberated the impact of internal migration as a result of the drought and localization of the refugee marshal plan.
” The meeting provided an opportunity for our County Government of Wajir and IOM to discuss on increasing the impact of IOM programs and activities in Wajir. Our conversation also focused on the impact of internal migration as a result of the drought and localization of the refugee marshal plan” said the Governor.

The overall border management,security and engagement of communities also featured in the discussions
On his part IOM Regional Director for East and Horn of Africa Mr. Mohammed Abdiker said they also discussed Discussed drought response, climate change, migration governance including youth employment.

Among those in attendance of the meeting were; Ms Dimanche Sharon – IOM’s Chief of Mission – Kenya Country Office and Mr. Said Sheik Abdi who is the Senior Regional Strategic Advisor.
Wajir is among Asal counties in Northern Kenya that have been hard hot by the ongoing devastating drought that has decimated crops and livestock and even claimed human lives.
Northern Kenya leaders have called on President William Ruto to declare the prevailing drought in the region a National disaster whilst urging for increased humanitarian aid to affected population.
President William Ruto has last week flagged off relief food targeting about 3.5 million affected Kenyans in 23 counties across the country.
