MOGADISHU– The electoral disputes resolution committee of Somalia has called off the election of the acting National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) chief Yassin Farey following a myriad of complaints raised by contestors and observers over the elections outcome.
The committee said that they will prepare and compile all the complaints put up against the seat within a week and submit the report to the electoral commission for further actions.
Acting Somalia’s National Intelligence (NISA) boss Yasin Abdullahi Farey emerged a victor in the poll held in Dhusamerab, Galmudug on Thursday with a landslide victory.
Yassin got 65 votes while his opponent Mohamed Ali Ulusow garnered 20 votes. Three votes got spoilt.
Farey was appointed to the position in late October to lead the intel agency in an acting capacity following the sacking of his predecessor Fahad Yasin by the Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble over the management of the case of missing and allegedly “dead” spy agent Ikran Tahlil Farah.
Yassin Farey who is allegedly one of President Farmajo’s closest allies, opponents of the current government see his candidature as a well calculated part of Villa Somalia’s bid to ensure the re-election of Farmajo into the office once again.
Farey arrived in Moqadishu yesterday evening from Dhusamerab where he has been since last week and was welcomed by his supporters and elders at Aden Abdulle international airport.
Sources says that his Weceysle clan are against his candidature and election and allude that he is being used by Villa Somalia in a bid to ensure the stay of president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo in power.
It is not clear if Yassin Farey resigned from his current position as the head of the National Intelligence (NISA) as required and stipulated by the Federal electoral laws of Somalia.
Council of presidential candidates have added to their voice the rising complaints about the electoral process and have vowed to oppose election results of areas where opposition candidates have been denied to contest in the elections.
Key politicians who were barred from participating in the ongoing parliamentary are elections are Mohamed Osman Jawari, former parliament speaker and Ex- NISA chief Abdirahman Tuuryare.
Jawari objected the manner in which the elections are being held in his South West state. Citicizing the electoral process and warned it could lead the country into crisis.
However, the State poll body says the delegates for the seat 103 suspended by the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) have arrived at the polling centre in Baidoa.
The state polls body said it would proceed with the voting despite Former Lower House speaker Mohamed Jawari protesting after he was locked out of the race.
The South West Indirect Electoral Implementation Committee (IEIC) has rejected the FEIT Commission’s request to suspend the seat HOP # 103 following a complaint from the incumbent MP Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari.
The chairman of the Electoral commission of South West State Yusuf Abdulkadir Mohamed Baafo, has insisted that four seats, including HOP # 103, will be held on Sunday , November 28, 2021.
The seats to be held today include, the seat HOP103 which is being occupied by outgoing House soeaker Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari after it was suspended by the Federal Electoral Commission, after Jawari lodged complainty about the electoral procure.
In Baidoa, three seats members of the Somali Parliament were elected yesterday in the election held in the city of Baidoa, with the election of Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman, the 10th Parliamentary Assembly Speaker of Somalia and new MPs.
The Prime Minister of the Federal government of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble met has on Saturday evening held a meeting with the the election Dispute Resolution Committee and the Chairperson of the Federal Electoral Implementation Committee amidst various complaints by candidates decrying about the electoral malpractices.
PM Roble urged the Committees to address the grievances raised by the candidates to the 11th House of the People elections and bring a solution to them in the soonest time possible and called on them to ensure credibility and transparency in the polls.
“As the Prime Minister,We do not accept any corruption by the election commissions at the federal and state levels. We will never allow them to be influenced by the state leaders,” Roble told reporters in Moqadishu.
Mohamed Hussein Roble called on the candidates not to post their grievances on social media but to submit them to the Dispute Resolution Committee to address their their grievances.
Roble’s concerns to the dispute resolution team comes barely two days after the international community in a joint statement called on the electoral authorities to deliver a elections devoid of corruption and ensure the integrity and transparency of the elections are upheld and prevent any form of electoral irregularities.
