MOGADISHU -Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble on Monday night held talks with Federal Member State presidents via zoom on how to address the increasing claims of a flawed electoral process in the ongoing parliamentary elections. amid concerns by the opposition on malpractices in the ongoing Lower House elections.
Prime Minister Roble noted called on Federal Member State leaders to uphold the Lower House elections in their jurisdiction in a free and fair manner so as to have elections that are admissible in the eyes of the public and the international community.
The Office of the Prime Minister released a statement to the media noting that the regional State leaders pledged to convene and hold elections that are transparent and credible and assured the PM that they will hold elections in their respective States as soon as possible.
Prime Minister Mohamed Roble had prior to this talk, held meeting at his official residence in Moqadishu council of presidential candidates ( CPC) who raised grave concerns on the management of the ongoing House of people elections noting that it has been state managed.
The council led by former president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud vowed to oppose election results of areas where opposition were barred from contesting in the elections.
They accused Villa Somalia of imposing candidates and close allies of incumbent president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo who have since reaped big in the ongoing elections.
The 15 member CPC urged Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to out stringent measures on the ground to curb corruption and manipulation of results that could trigger chaos in the Horn of Africa State.
The government has since denied the allegations levied against them of influencing electoral process and instead said the elections are going on in a smooth and transparent manner.
