MOGADISHU-Chairman of the Federal Electoral Commission Mohamed Hassan Irro said it would never be possible to cancel the election of the House, but any seat that does not go through the formal process will be re-elected.

Irro also said he was committed to correcting any irregularities in the election of seats in the country’s elections.

“What is happening now is an indirect election agreed upon by the National Consultative Assembly, and it is not possible to suspend the election, and in the meantime any mistakes can be corrected and any grievances must always be corrected,” said Irro.

The statement from the chairman of the Federal Electoral Commission comes at a time when there are many complaints about the recent election of some seats in the House of the People in Baidoa and Dhusamareb.

The statement from the Federal Electoral Commission also coincides with a recent call by the Union of Somali Presidential Candidates for the cancellation of parliamentary elections, which they said was not going as required.
