MANDERA, KENYA –Mandera county governor Ali Ibrahim Roba on Monday presided over the launching of the Regional Peace, Cohesion and Heritage Centre in Mandera Municipality.
The governor said that the center will help in solving and bringing to an end the perennnial hostilities usually experienced in border areas in Ethiopia and Somalia along side Kenyans living along the two borders and will entrench cohesion amongst the communities living boarder areas.
Governor Roba also thanked elders and particularly elders from Banisa sub-county for playing a pivotal role in ensuring sustainable and resolving conflicts between warring factions in an amiable manner.
“My immense appreciation to elders and particularly elders from Banisa sub-county for championing inter-community peace in a sustainable manner, inter-peace for playing a critical role in ensuring conflicts are resolved amicably with minimal violence and for funding the construction of this centre.” said Roba
The governor also heaped praise on
the county security team who he said have been instrumental in dealing with conflicts and forestalling and quelling the sporadic violence which has been witnessed in Mandera county and boardering areas.
“I would like to sincerely thank the county security team who have been swiftly responding to conflicts, closely working with leaders and communities to forestall sporadic violence and any other entity involved in peace initiatives in the county.” Said Governor Ali Roba.
Roba further challenged civil society to support and play a leading role in climate change interventions through planting of trees across the Mandera county.
