GAROWE-Puntland’s regional Security Minister Abdisamad Mohamed Gallan, has announced that his regional government is talks aimed at diffusing the tense situation and wrangles pitting between Puntland security forces supporting president Said Abdullahi Deni and US trained PSF forces allied to embattled sacked Commandant Mohamed Osman Diyano as heavy fighting between the two rival factions entered its second day.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Gallan said that they agreed to have talks to end the stalemate and broker a ceasefire and they had given in to s request from community elders and peace activits to have a ceasefire.
Gallan however fingered an accusation at the special PSF forces for bombarding Bosaaso town with heavy artillery and motors which led to death of civilians and destruction of property.
“As a regional administration we are ready for any dialogue and talks to solve the ongoing fighting between the two forces which has orchestrated displacement without infringing on the existing laws,” said Gallan.
Sources close to the fighting place the number of those killed at ten people and scores of others injured and taken to various health facilities according to medical reports in the besieged coastal town of Bosaso.
The US Embassy in Mogadishu in a statement carried on their Twitter handle on Tuesday evening called for immediate cease fire and said that continued fighting could precipitate catastrophes.
We urge an immediate end to hostilities in Bossaso and a return to dialogue to find a negotiated, peaceful resolution. Continued fighting will only inflict further harm on Bossaso and its people.
