WAJIR –The Ajuran clan in Wajir county which is the third largest single voting block has declared that they will field candidates for the position of Senate and Women representative.
The community grounded their decision on successful consultations through its Ajuran National Council ( ANC) and Ajuran Council of Elders ( ACE) held at Wajir Palace Hotel in Wajir county and extensive community engagement that spanned for months; reiterating it’s willingnes to work with communities and stakeholders in Wajir in seeking the positions come August 2022.
In a press statement seen Frontier Online, the two chairpersons Abass Abdullahi, the chairman of the Ajuran national council (ANC) and his counterpart Yusuf Ibrahim of the the Ajuran Council of elders (ACE) said the decision was informed by extensive community engagement that has spanned for months.
The following resolutions were agreed.
1 The Ajuran community through its supreme organ the Ajuran National Congress (ANC) in concurrence with the Ajuran Council of elders have resolved that the Ajuran community will contest for the position of County Senator and Women Representative.
2 The decision was informed by extensive community engagements that spanned months, The engagement forum included political leaders meeting, meeting of the professionals and in-depth discussions by ANC and ACE.
3 The Council reiterates it’s willingness to work with other communities and stakeholders in seeking these positions through inclusive partnership for equity, peace and prosperity by forming alliances across the board for the benefit of Wajir County.
4 The Council will forthwith share its itinerary In the selection process for the said positions and the same shared.
In November last year, the Ajuran community which is domiciled in Wajir North endorsed businessman Shallow Abdullahi to battle it out for the Governor’s seat.
Shallow then contended that time is ripe for the Ajuran community to take over the reins of power at the county level.
Speaking exclusively to Frontier Online, Shallow Abdullahi welcomed the move by the two supreme organs Ajuran National Council and Ajuran Council of elders saying that he will abide by their decision.

“I welcome the announcement by ANC and ACE, I will abide by it, previously when I declared that I will vie gubernatorial seat, I said I will wait for their direction, now I will contest for senatorial seat” said Shallow.
Wajir County which has three main clans (Degodia, Ogaden, and Ajuran) ostensibly had a mutual agreement in the run-up to 2013 and 2017 that the majority Degodia produces a governor and women representative, leaving the posts of senator and deputy governor to be shared by Ogaden and Ajuran clans.
