MOGADISHU-At least five people have been confirmed dead and 16 others injured in Multiple attacks in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu overnight by suspected Al-Shabaab militant group.
The insurgents staged several attacks on Kahda, Yaqshid and Daynile districts located on the edges of the Somali capital before overrunning Kahda police Station at 1:00 am local time.
The group also attacked police stations in Elasha-Biyaha, El-Janaale and Dar es Salaam neighbourhoods, all in the capital Mogadishu leaving residents with shock.
Sources say the militants first bombed a police station in Kahda district causing a fire that destroyed the station before taking away government vehicles.
Shortly thereafter, another car bomb took place in Darusalam neighborhood killing at least two civilians and injuring multiple others.The attackers are believed to have targeted the Heliwa District Commissioner, Ahmed Nur Aderow.
Mortar Shells were also reported in Shibis and Shangani districts leaving behind a trail of destruction.
Somali interior minister Abdullahi Mohamed Nur in a statement on his Twitter handle confirmed the attacks and said that government forces repulsed the attackers.

Al-Shabaab has recently increased attacks on the capital Mogadishu and across other regional States which killed several people and caused serious other injuries as the country continues with Parliamentary elections.
