NAIROBI- Mandera Senator Mohamed Maalim Mumad’s bid to succeed Mandera governor Ali Ibrahim Roba who is serving his second and last term has gained momentum after a Weytan community from Mandera county endorsed him in his quest for the top seat.
In a colourfully choreographied event held at the Bomas of Kenya on Sunday, Weytan community overwhelmingly voiced their support for the Senator and said they are endorsing him as the governor nominee for Mandera county.
The community exuded confidence in the candidure of Senator Mohamed Mumad saying he is best placed to take over the mantle from governor Ali Roba.
Led by Long serving politician MP from Mandera Shaaban Ali Issack and current Deputy governor of Mandera Mohamed Arai ,the community stated that Senator Mumad possess all the leadership qualities of a good leader and that Mandera county will be safe under his hands.

The deputy county boss described Senator Mumad as a competent person who can take the county to a greater height owing to his distinguished long standing career affirming that they can trust his hand with the affairs of the county.
Arai further added that as a community they have fully thrown their weight behind the Senator to contest for the coveted seat in the upcoming August Polls.
“As you all know well, this is an astute politician who we can be able to trust his hands in the people of the county.Kwa hivyo tunasema Mumad tosha ( And therefore we are saying Mumad tosha).” said the deputy governor.
On his part, the deputy governor nominee Mohamed Hussein alias “Qaras0” said that he knows Mumad as a diligent civil servant, a good legislator whom they worked together in the 10th parliament adding that he is a man of principle and hardworking who represented and executed his duties in an impeccable manner.
Qaras stated that as a pair they will employ their experience and knowledge to transform the county and bring services closer to the people urging the residents to elect them in the forthcoming general elections.
“Tumeungana mkono Ile tuweze tuwafanyiye Kazi wakaazi wa Mandera.Mimi nimeamua kurudi tena Kwa siasa Ili tunyoreshe take ambao imeharibika Mandera na Ile tuongeze wananchi wa Mandera Kwa njia sawa( We have come together to perform our duties to serving the Mandera people and once we take over we will bring sanity in the county).” he said.
While addressing the mammoth crowd, Senator Mohamed Maalim Mumad expressed his pleasure for being nominated to run for the top seat in the county and promised to bring and restore sanity in the county.
The Senator also underlined that if elected as the next county governor he wil stabilise the county by ensuring the efficiency use of public resources and pledged to give out servant leadership to the people.
He eventually thanked the community for coming out in large to endorse him as a gubernatorial candidate and vowed to go by the wishes of the electorates.
“I feel privileged and honoured to have been endorsed by this magnitude of people of Mandera county to be their governor candidate for the year 2022 General elections.I pledge to do all what you want me to do in terms of bringing sanity into that county in giving servant leadership that is going to deliver services to the people.” said Senator Mumad.
Senator Mohamed Maalim Mumad now joins the growing list of gubernatorial contenders in Mandera county who are seeking to succeed governor Ali Ibrahim Roba.

Among those who have declared their interest are current Mandera county Assembly Speaker Mohamed Khalif, former Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of East African Community and Regional Development Adan Mohamed, Mombasa based businessman Feisal Abdirahman Siid and Hassan Noor Hassan former Education Chief Administrative Secretary.
