NAIROBI- Former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has revealed that she is a Christian by faith despite bearing Muslim name.
Jumwa made the revelation when she appeared before the National Assembly Appointments Committee to be vetted for the slot of Cabinet secretary in the Public Service, Gender and Affirmative Action docket.
“Yes, I converted to a Christian and Aisha is a Muslim name. I was a Muslim. My name was Aisha Abdallah,” she said.
She said despite her conversion to Christian she decided to keep her first name.
“I am now a Christian, a strong believer. I am a Muslim by name and a Christian by faith,” she said.
Jumwa also told the vetting panel that she is worth Sh100 million and struggled very hard to finish school due to financial constraints and is very proud of her poor grade of D minus.
“It’s good if you appreciate me and congratulate me,” she told MPs.
Jumwa who ran for Kilifi gubernatorial seat in the 2022 August polls was among cabinet nominees who appeared before the National Assembly’s vetting committee for vetting.
She pledged that if approved by the National Assembly she will perform her assigned duties diligently.
Among those who appeared before the vetting committee include; Interior Cabinet Secretary Nominee Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Njuguna Ndungu if National Treasury and Cabinet Secretary for Energy David ChirChir.
The vetting continues on Wednesday.
