Marsabit county government has announced that it has suspended all development projects for the financial year 2022/2023 in a bid to put more efforts on saving human lives triggered by the ongoing devastating drought ravaging the county.
Governor Mohamud M. Ali – Abshiro made this declaration while flagging off relief food for the drought stricken people at his office on Friday 21/10/2022.
The Governor said it behoves them as a county government to prioritize on efforts aimed at salvaging human lives instead of implementing development projects at this critical moment.
He stated that all county resources will be redirected and channelled towers humanitarian aid in a bid to alleviate the vagaries of the drought on the people and the livestock.
The county boss launched a fleet of trucks to disburse humanitarian relief supplies to 20,000 vulnerable and disadvantaged households across the county’s 20 wards.
Mohamud pledged that his administration will bolster humanitarian aid in the county one’s the county assembly approves the budget before the house adding that the county is in an emergency status where a large number of people have been adversely affected by the drought
“The county is in emergency status where huge number of locals are in desperate need of food and water aid.” said the Governor.
He furthermore underscored the tireless efforts by Non-Governmental Development Partners who are involved in the mitigation measures and urged them to join hands with the National and county government in an attempt to avoid duplication where some households benefit more than the others.
“I urge Non- governmental partners to join hands and harmonized their activities with county and national government to avoid duplication in which some households benefits from relief food and cash transfer more than once.” said Mohamud.

However, the county chief called on the members of public to report to police or his office any incident of pilferage of relief food while chastising the county staffs entrusted with handling of the food stuffs.
