MOGADISHU– Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has on Thursday received the Head of the AU Transition Mission (ATMIS) Head Souef Mohamed El-Amine.
The meeting in Dhusamareb town, the capital of Galmudug State discussed the latest developments in Somalia’s security and ATMIS support to the ongoing offensive against Al-Shabaab by the Somali government forces.
The upcoming drawdown of 3000 troops by ATMIS in line with the UN resolution was brought to the fore.
Pesident Mohamud thanked the ATMIS boss for the visit expressing his government commitment to eradicating Al-Shabab in the country.
On his part, Amb. El- Amine lauded the Somali government for the making a great progress in the war against extremism.
He pledged to support the Somali government led efforts to eliminating the Al-qaeda affiliate group from the Horn of Africa Nation.
Moreover, the African Union commission Chairperson’s special representative also met with the Somali Minister for defence Abdullahi Mohamed Nur where they also tackled the fight against Al-Shabaab and stabilization of the areas liberated from the group.
The meeting by the ATMIS head and President Mohamud is significantly going to play a pivotal role in the stability and uprising against Al-Shabaab who have been losing to the Somali government in recent months.
