Puntland police boss Hassan Abdi Yare was sacked Monday evening barely few hours after meeting the chairman of the Federal Indirect Elections Team Mohamed Irro.

A statement from the Puntland presidency said brigadier Mohamed Hashi had been appointed to replace Yare following consultations with Deputy president Ahmed Karaash.

The circumstances surrounding the removal of Abdi Yare remained unclear but sources said he may have been dropped following his association with the Federal Government.

As Head of the Puntland Elections Security Committee, Abdi Yare met Monday afternoon with Irro whom he briefed on the elections preparedness.

The development could came in the same evening when the minister of security Mohamed Dhabanad cancelled a public forum which Irro was to address.

Abdi Yare was appointed to the position in April 2020. His successor, General Mohamed was until his appointment the Head of police in Bosaso port.
