MOGADISHU– Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has expressed his sympathy and solidarity with the families of those who lost property of Unknown value following a massive that ravaged the Taiwan market, the largest market in Jigjiga, the administrative capital of the Somali regional state in Ethiopia, on Friday night.
In a statement carried on his Facebook page, Farmaajo called on the Somali community across who are known for their philanthrosim to take part in efforts aimed at helping the people who lost their source of livelihood to the inferno.
” I call upon the Somali people across the globe to participate in supporting the people of Jigjiga who have lost property worth millions to the raging fire” said Farmaajo.
The former of Head State prayed Allah to grant the traders and people affected by the blaze alternative sources of livelihood.
A devastating fire swept through the Taiwan market, the largest market in Jigjiga destroying property of Unknown values.
Firefighters and the Military were able to extinguish the fire that completely ravaged the open-air market in Jigjiga.
Somaliland government dispatched a rescue team from Hargeisa to join efforts to put out the fire.
The group was led by the mayor Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge arrived at the scene on Saturday.
Speaking to journalists in Hargeisa before they set out for the journey to Jigjiga , Mayor Mooge said they are taking part in the extinguishing efforts to reciprocate the good gesture displayed by their brothers and sisters in Jigjiga during the Waahen fire tragedy.
” It is now our turn to reciprocate the very good help and support we received from Jigjiga”. he said
It was not clear what caused the inferno and the number of causalities.
However, security personnel have launched investigation into the incident in a bid to unravel the motive behind the fire.
