MOGADISHU– Somalia Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has on Saturday sacked his Finance Minister Dr Elmi Nur Mohamud in a cabinet reshuffle.

While announcing the mini reshuffle Somali government Spokesperson Farah Jimale said the Bihi Egeh has been appointed to take over the office Finance docket.

Jimale said the PM has further made appointments, Abukar Jeylani and Sadaad Mohamed Nur Aliyow have been named as State Ministers for Religious Affairs and Interior, respectively.

Additionally, Mohamed Elmi Ibrahim will serve as the Minister of Labour

A statement from the office of the Somali Prime Minister said the restructure is aimed at enhancing service delivery to the citizens and improving government efficiency.

This even comes two days after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and ousted Finance Minister Dr Elmi Nur differed over the sacking of two top officials of the Ministry of Finance.

However, the outgoing Minister reinstated the officials 24 hours after firing them in what some quarters said was a pressure from Villa Somalia.
