MOGADISHU– The first batch of pilgrims from Somalia have on Saturday left for Mecca Saudi Arabia.
The pilgrims are expected to perform Hajj rituals which is one of the critical pillars of Islam
Somali Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowment Sheikh Mukhtar Robow Ali who spoke to the media said that this year the price of going to Hajj has been reduced.
“It is the first time in history that there has been a reduction in the price of Hajj,” said the minister.
About 422 passengers flew from Mogadishu this morning, while 165 departed from Hargeisa, and other flights will depart in the coming days.
The minister added that the pilgrims who left this year are mostly elderly people, as some of the past years pilgrimage have been canceled due to the covid-19 virus which hit the entire globe.
