Ex-Kenya ambassador to Iran Rukia Subow has on Tuesday distributed assorted elief food to Wajir county residents who are facing starvation during this time of drought About 1800 needy households from Warguduud, Waberi,Elben and Jowhar received the rations families.
Rukia also prioritized the orphans ,people with disabilities and the less fortunate in the community.
Speaking to the media,Subow said that this is the right time to stand with the community as the drought continues to ravage parts of Northern.
“It is always good to remember others especially at times like this when we all have to pray for rain . I can assure you that many people will donate for you during this period “.Said the former ambassador.
On the other hand, families that benefitted from the rations thanked Mama Rukia for coming to their aid saying that to get have been greatly affected by the ongoing drought in Northern Kenya which has claimed both animals and people.
“I thank Mama Rukia for helping us out and for the food supply at this critical time when we are in need of food and other essential commodities.”said Mohamed Abdi.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had on Wednesday, 8th September 2021, declared the drought affecting parts of the country a national disaster.
President Uhuru Kenyatta instructed the National Treasury and the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to spearhead Government efforts to assist affected households including water and relief food distribution as well as livestock uptake.
The decision follows a meeting between the Head of State and 85 leaders from Kenya’s Arid and Semi Arid Lands (ASAL) led by Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani.
