According to a statement carried on the Somali News Agency, the Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ridding off Al-Shabab militants from the remnants areas under their control.
The PM further added that the central government will shift its attention to debt relief program and drafting of the new constitution after the conclusion of Shabaab.
Prime Minister Hamza has left Mogadishu on April 15 for Jeddah for Umrah and was accompanied by several senior Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) officials.
This is even as a section of Somali MPs prepare a vote of no-confidence motion to oust Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and his Council of Ministers over alleged incompetence and corruption that has dogged his eight month old government.
Several MPs from both Houses and a group of influential bureaucrats have been camping in Nairobi and Mogadishu in recent days working behind the scene drafting the motion to dislodge the Premier and compel President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to appoint a new Prime Minister.
President Mohamud named Hamza Abdi Barre who served as Secretary General of his party to circumvent possible collision and fallout that often characterize Somalia’s new government.
President Mohamud’s Special Envoy for drought Abdirahman Abdishakur is reportedly among those engineering the motion.
