Former Wajir East MP Abass Sheikh Mohamed alias “Abass KK” has announced that he has withdrawn his candidature in favour of City lawyer cum-business-mogul Adan Daud Mohamed who was unanimously endorsed by the Massare community to battle it out with the incumbent MP Rashid Kassim Amin who hails from the Fai Community, poised as the majority clan in Wajir East.
in a three-day consultative meeting held at Hanan Guest House South C, that brought together Ugasate, elders, and professionals of Massare Community to strategise ahead of next year’s August polls.
In his address Abass Sheikh Mohamed said that he will back Adan Daud as the community flag bearer so as to bring back the Wajir East seat to the family.
“I would like to state that I will support Adan Daud as the anointed candidate and will work with him closely so as to deliver and get more support for him.”
On his part, Adan Daud welcomed the bold decision by the former legislator to step aside for him and vowed to work hand in hand with him in a bid to bolster efforts to combatting and trouncing the aspirants who will contest for the Cosmopolitan Wajir East constituency.
“Abass has a bulk of experience and I am sure working with him will be the greatest decision and I would like us to approach the other 41 tribes in Wajir East and exhort them to throw their weight behind us this time round.” Said Adan Daud.
The Massare Sultan Abdullahi Madey said that he is very delighted to see the family coming together in one front and backing one candidature for the benefit of the community and unequivocally urge other like-minded individuals to support the family in emerging victorious in the forthcoming elections slated for August next year.
“I wish to thank Abass KK for honorably bolting out of the race in the interest of the family candidate and appeal to the communities living in Wajir East to rally behind us,” Said Sultan Abdullahi

In 2013 Masare Community endorsed Abass Sheikh Mohamed as MP, whereby he won the seat on URP ticket.
In 2017 he was also subsequently picked by his clan as the flag bearer to defend his seat by then, but unfortunately lost to the current serving lawmaker Mr. Rashid Kassim Amin.
Wajir East Constituency Parliamentary seat is currently held by Rashid Kassim Amin who in 2017 won against ex-MP Abass Mohamed with a small margin.
It remains to be seen whether Fai Community will back the candidature of incumbent MP Rashid Kassim in next year’s general elections.
However, Frontier Online can not independently verify whether Rashid Kassim will defend his seat come 2022.
