NAIROBI– It was pomp and colour during the inauguration of Degodia youth chairman Mr. Khalif Sheikh Abdirahman at Eastleigh High School in the mushrooming Somali neighbourhood in Kenya’s capital Nairobi on Sunday.
The ceremony brought together different stakeholders and high profile personalities led by former Kamukunji MP aspirant Alinur Mohamed.
Others in attendance included Ex- Kenya Ambassador to Iran Rukia Subow, member of county Assembly for Eastleigh North Ahmed Dabar, Abdikadir Bosh who was a former Wajir Senate contestant, community elders, professionals and top Somali musician Hassan Gantaal.

Unity and cohesion among the Degodia youth took centre in the coronation ceremony with speaker after speaker urging the youth not to be disintegrated into smaller factions.
Alasa Osman, a veteran Health professional rejoiced at witnessing the occasion saying it was her first time to see youth from the Degodia community converge in such a social gathering to front their affairs.
She exhorted the upcoming young generation to shelve and keep aside mediocrity and all retrogressive activities that will hamper the progress and transformation of the family and instead advocate for brotherhood and unity amongst themselves.
“You should keep aside mediocrity and all the things that will affect the progress of the family and instead front for cohesion and togetherness”. she said.
Former Kenya Envoy to Iran Rukia Subow highlighted the importance of youth in the society asserting that youth is the hope of the community and society urging the youth to be the fabric that holds the family together.
“Youth are the backbone of family and are expected to be an appendage that bonds together the family and therefore you I called upon you to play significant part in the political and social landscape “. said Rukia.
The current Degodia Women Chairman called on the youth to desist from being misused by few self – centred people with a view to stoking political and social upheaval in the society.
“I call upon you as youth to avoid being misused by few individuals to create problems and discord in the family and society at large.” she said.
On his part, Former Kamukunji MP contestant Alinur Mohamed pledged support to the youth in different facets delineating that he will never allow someone to go through the problem he went through underscoring that youth are subjected to disparate troubles in their lives.
“I promise to support the youth in terms of financial, strength, advice and whatever I can. I will never allow someone else to undergo the problems I went through.” he said.
Taking to the podium the new youth Chairman Khalif Abdirahman implored to the Degodia youth to embrace him and work with his administration in a bid to take the community to a greater height.
” I ask my fellow youth to work together with my team so that we champion for issues that are development -oriented and are beneficial for the young generation.” said Khalif.
Eventually, the event culminated in the installation of the new leadership as they took over the mantle from their predecessors with prominent Somali singer Hassan Gantaal taking to the stage breaking everyone in the event to dance and splendid display of choreographic gestures.
