MOGADISHU– Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Daud Aweys Jama has on Tuesday officially inaugurated a three-day training workshop tailored on child rights reporting in Somalia.
The workshop which was facilitated and organized by the Somali Media for Human Rights Advocacy (SIMHA) is aimed at furnishing journalists with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively and accurately report on child rights issues and advocate for the well-being of Somali children.
According to a statement from the entity, the workshop which brought together over 25 journalists from various media houses is geared towards creating a conducive environment for child rights reporting in Somalia.
Speaking at the event, the Information Minister emphasized the significance of role of journalists in advancing and advocating for the rights of children in the country. “Journalists play a vital responsibility in championing for the rights of Somali children and this workshop equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills to responsibly and effectively report on Children rights.” he said.
On his part, The Organization’s Director Hassan Ali Geesey underscored the importance of illuminating and enlightening on the challenges faced by Somali children and ensuring their protection.

He asserted that the media personnel have the capacity and the wherewithal to make a significant impact through responsible reporting of children rights.
“Journalists have the ability to make a notable impact through responsible reporting of child rights” said Geesey.
Children in the Horn of Africa Nation grapple with myriad challenges ranging from rape, defilement, early marriage nd subjected to othe forms of sexual exploitations.
The training is expected to significantly contribute to the reduction of such kinds of vices since journalists will have the necessary skills at hand to report extensively on these violations.
