MOGADISHU– Somalia’s new Chief of Defence Forces has on Sunday held meeting with top officials of the military.
Gen. Ibrahim Sheikh Muhiyadin met the senior officers of army’s general command at the Defence Ministry Headquarters in the capital Mogadishu.
The meeting which was largely an introduction of the new chief and the commands also featured on bolstering of security on the country and the war against Al-Shabaab militant as the Federal government mulls over a major onslaught against the insurgents in the second phase which is scheduled to begin in the coming months.
The Army commander urged the officers to execute their duties with professionalism and dedication and in line with the established laws of the country.
Gen. Muhyadin took over the reign from his predecessor Gen. Odowa Yusuf Rage on Saturday in a highly organized ceremony with full military honours and parade presided over by Defence Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur and attended by senior government officials and dignitaries.
Also, in the ceremony former Land Forces commander, General Mohamed Tahlil Bihi, officially hands over to his successor General Ahmed Aden Ali.
