DHUSAMAREB– Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has on Sunday held meeting with the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), Catriona Laing in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State.
The President Mohamud and the Special envoy discussed various pertinent issues including security, facilitate humanitarian aid, and development projects.
They also deliberated the government’s strategy to stabilize areas recovered from Al-Shabab and ways of providing essential services to the residents in those areas.
During the meeting, President Mohamud underscored that ongoing Al-Shabab operations are going well according to the government’s plan and called for the United Nations to cooperate with his administration to eradicate the insurgents from the country.

On her part, Ms Laing threw weight behind the ongoing uprising against Al-Shabaab asserting that the UN is committed to combatting with terrorism.
Somali government forces have in recent days stepped up operations against Al-shabab which has gained momentum with the last two days being the worst days for the Al- Qaeda affiliate group after suffering a major blow following the killing of dozens of members of the militant group
in Bay and Lower Shabelle regions.
The Somali Ministry of Defence said in statement that 23 Al-Shabab operatives have been killed in Bula- Fuley in Bay region on Saturday.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been camping in Dhusamareb for the past few days in a bid to accelerate the completion of the first phase of operations against the militant group.
